There is no ferry service from the mainland from June 1, 2022 to June 15, 2022 due to maintenance. Click here for ferry details. For our American friends traveling by car, you’ll need to travel into Canada and come on island that way. Presently there are no travel restrictions, you just need your passport, proof of vaccination and to complete the “ArriveCan” app.

How to get here

Friars Bay Inn & Cottages is approximately a 6 hour drive from Boston, 4 hours from Portland, 2 hours from Bangor, and 1 hour from St. Stephen.

Driving Directions
NOTE- Campobello Island is in Canada, but is only accessible by road from the United States. Don’t forget your passport!

From the States, travel I-95 to Bangor, Maine. Take Route 1A to Ellsworth. From there take Route 1 to Whiting. Turn right onto Route 189 to Lubec. Cross the International Bridge to Campobello Island.

From Canada, take Route 1 from Saint John N.B. or Route 3 from Fredericton N.B. to St Stephen N.B. From there, cross the border to Calais, Maine and follow Route 1 south to Whiting. Turn left onto 189 to Lubec. Cross the International Bridge to Campobello Island.

Travel by Ferry
Travel to Campobello is also available from Canada by ferry, from mid-June through September. Ferries leave from Deer Island, NB, Canada. View the ferry schedule here.

Yes, there are two! Village Mart is a full grocery store and Variety Convenience is a convenience store that sells groceries. There are also several places to eat.

Our Waterfront and Hill cottages include functional kitchens, so you are welcome to bring or purchase groceries. The Porch At Friars Bay is a restaurant that is a 5 minute walk from us, and there are also several restaurant options available – check out the list on our tourism site, here.

No, unfortunately there is no gas available on island. It is a 5 minute drive over the border to the gas station in Lubec.

Absolutely! Dogs are welcome in our Waterside Cottages and select Inn rooms. There is a $35 pet deposit which will be returned at checkout upon room inspection. So sorry, no cats please.
